What training is available?
Plain language training is offered in two stages.
The first stage is the one-day workshop, Avoid
the Pain. Make it Plain. This workshop teaches the principles
of plain language and how to write in plain language.
This workshop is a practical introduction to
plain language where participants develop effective writing skills
while working on real examples of their own workplace documents.
Participants are taken through the whole writing
process, from analysing their audience, through to how to test a
document before it goes into circulation.
A comprehensive set of training materials includes
practical tools and checklists that participants can use long after
the workshop is over.
The second stage is a half-day follow-up workshop.
This workshop is for those who wish to further develop their plain
language writing skills.
How is the training structured?
The initial workshop is a full day and the follow-up
workshop is a half day. The workshops are delivered at your place
of business. Up to 12 participants can attend a workshop.
Who should attend training?
The people primarily responsible for producing
written information in your organisation should attend training.
These people may be in a communications role,
marketing role, administration role, or a supervisory role. They
may be producing anything from promotional materials, to letters,
to work procedures.
It doesn't matter what their writing ability
is like - all writers can benefit from developing skills in plain
language writing.
Does the training work?
Yes. Our training works because it is practical
and fun.
Participants remember what they have learned
because they practise the skills during training and have fun while
doing it.
Participants gain hands-on experience by working
on the documents they actually deal with in their working day.
Most participants are amused at what their documents
were like before they got to them with a plain language approach!
Why should we train staff?
When staff develop skills in plain language writing,
you are building a resource within your organisation that will improve
your ongoing communication with customers and staff.
